What is your motivation to win?
Do you have a reason to win this game? to play hard? to leave it all on the field?
You should. First and foremost, you should be playing for yourself. Every time you step on the field you should play with a sense of pride that says you deserve to win. If you’ve been working hard at practice and putting in the necessary Soccer training, you do deserve to win. Opponents should realize that if they are going to try to take this win away from you, it’s going to be a tough battle.
Secondly, you should be playing for your teammates and in return they should be playing for you. It’s all about working for one another; if I’m going to be working my hardest for my teammate, I will expect them to do the same for me. Being part of a team who plays for each other rather than solely themselves is a very powerful feeling and will result in much more success.
If you feel this is problem in your team (players are playing for personal glory, rather than the good of the team), you may want to bring it up with your Soccer coach and teammates. This can be a very frustrating environment to play in and can certainly hinder your development as a Soccer player.
Thirdly, play for your coach or manger. He/she is dedicating their time and effort for your benefit; the least you can do is give your full effort to get them a win. Trust me, as a Soccer coach there is nothing more rewarding than seeing your hardworking team earn a much deserved win.
In reality, Winning just feels good.
Take a second out of your busy day and let’s conduct a little experiment.
First, remember a time your team lost. Ok.
Keep that in your mind.
Now, remember a time you won. Good.
Now you tell me, which feeling feels better? Which emotion do you want to experience again?
Play to win.
You play to win the game. Your Soccer career won’t last very long if all you do is lose. If you’re serious about becoming a better Soccer player, you need to play to win every time you step on the field. That competitive edge will be extremely helpful as you advance in your career.
On that note, I want to bring up an important point. If you don’t enjoy playing soccer, it’s not worth playing at all. You’ll be a much more successful player if you love stepping on the field and can’t wait for the next time you get the soccer ball at your feet.
If this isn’t how you feel about the game, you may want to pick up another hobby, maybe Dungeons and Dragons or collecting pet rocks. This sport is for the passionate. If you’re not passionate, this game isn’t for you.

My old coach used to play us this video before our games to get us pumped up and motivated to play. Let’s see if it does anything for you.
