No one likes to be associated with lazy people, in Soccer and in life. People like to be surrounded by ambitious individuals who want to work hard and become better every chance they get. Your teammates will value and admire you if you’re ambitious, motivated, and a hard worker, your coach will appreciate you and, your opponents will respect you.
Being lazy will significantly affect your progress as a Soccer player. Whether it be training on your own time, at practice, or during games. If you can’t find the urge inside of yourself to work hard then you are not going to make it very far as a Soccer player. You cannot expect to show up to the game on the weekend and work hard; if you have failed to work hard all through the week. It just doesn’t work that way.
Here are four (4) helpful tips to apply to your life and soccer development, if you’re currently in a rut of laziness:
1) Wake up Early.
Waking up early could be the simplest but most effective piece of advice I could give to you as an individual. Don’t let the day pass you by. Sleeping in until 2:00 in the afternoon may seem like a good idea (to a lazy person), but it’s really a waste of a day. There is so much more you can accomplish in a day when you wake up early and if you’re focused on becoming a better Soccer player, you need to use every minute to your advantage.
2) Do something to improve your game every day.
A wise man (his name slips my mind at this moment) once said, “Spend at least 2 hours every day working on your purpose.” That’s is a valuable piece of advice and if your committed to progressing your Soccer career to the top level, it is a piece of advice you need to apply to your life. Whatever it may be, working on your physical soccer conditioning, technical soccer skills, tactical soccer knowledge, or mental soccer toughness; you need to put in the work to get to the next level. Commit yourself to a lifestyle of constant improvement.
3) Work harder than the next guy.
Using other players on your team or opponents is a good way to motivate yourself to try even harder – not that you shouldn’t be giving your best all the time (but sometimes you need a little reminder). If you see someone working harder than you, use it as motivational tool to raise your effort and match their intensity.
4) Never Quit.
It’s not good enough to work hard only half of the time. If you find yourself being lazy, recognize this habit and correct it. You should always give your best effort from the beginning to the end (you’ll have time to rest after), whether it is a training session, practice, or game. Remember, to always play with pride.
