How Many Yellow Cards do you get in a Season?
When I was younger, one of my Soccer Coaches told me, “if you’re not getting a yellow card at least every 2 games, you’re not playing hard enough”. I took this comment to heart and evaluated my game, I rarely got yellow cards but still felt I always played hard. Was I not playing hard enough simply because I didn’t receive that many yellow cards? This barley seemed logical to me but maybe my Soccer Coach had a point.
Now, my Coach was a hardnosed English man who felt if you didn’t leave your opponent with two broken ankles after a tackle you were a certified “Wussy”. So maybe this statement was a little extreme. Nonetheless, there is something to be gained from this statement.
Yellow cards can be giving for a variety of things, descent, intentional hand balls, dives, and dirty tackles, just to name a few. But many a time yellow cards are the result of a determined player simply putting all they have on the line to win the ball for their team.
By no means should you go out looking for Yellow Cards but in the heat of the match these things happen. Obviously, some positions on the field are less likely to get involved in such situations on a regular basis. However, regardless of the Soccer position you play, you should always play your hardest.
Yellow cards should not be a statistic you strive to achieve but it may be a good indication of how hard you really are playing.
My question to you is:
How many Yellow Cards do you Get in a Season?
You may want to provide your position, age, and what the majority of your cards are given for.
What are your thoughts on this topic? Would you agree with this concept? Or do you feel I’ve begun to slowly lose my mind?
Please share your thoughts, experiences, and opinions.
As you can see from the Soccer Video Below, there is a huge difference between a good Yellow card and a Bad Yellow Card. Never intentionally try to harm another player. You should always play hard but you should always play fair.
