Tricks Are For Kids
Are you being effective with your dribbling?
The earlier you can realize tricks and fancy skills are
all fun and look cool but in reality are they
helping you blow past players and
create scoring situations?
Don’t get me wrong.
One on One Moves are essential and very important
skills to master.
But how are you using these skills?
Effectively?
I am going to create a hypothetical
scenario for you:
Modern Messi
vs.
18 Year Old Ronaldo
18 Year Old Ronaldo was extremely skilled
but he wasn’t anywhere near as effective
as modern day Messi or even
modern day Cristiano Ronaldo.
He used lots of scissors and stepovers and he
would be successful a large majority of the time.
But he would also get closed down, trip over his own feet,
and loose the ball from time to time.
Now Ronaldo is much more effective.
He uses his incredible speed,
technical skills, and quick feet to a much
better advantage.
It’s usually one or two stepovers and a burst of speed into
open space. Few players can stay with him
when he does this at speed.
Let’s look at Modern Messi.
Doesn’t use many tricks but still they considering him one
of the best (if not the best) dribbler in the game.
He consistently beats 3-4 players at a time
and all at top speed.
What makes Messi so effective is his productive
touches, his changes of direction, lower center of
gravity, physical strength, and ability to out
smart any opponent.
Look at 18 Year Old Ronaldo doing break dancing moves
on the ball by the corner flag.
Look at Modern Day Messi cutting past 3 defenders in the box
with two touches and slotting the ball in the
bottom corner.
Which player are you?
Be More Effective!
PS – Let’s hear your opinion on who is better (Ronald or Messi?)
